HI, I HAVE BEEN COMING TO YOUR SITE FOR A YEAR OR TWO AS A LOVER OF VINTAGE/ANTIQUE AMERICAN POTTERY. I HAVE GOTTEN A REAL KICK OUT OF YOUR DISCUSSIONS. ITS GREAT THAT THERE IS A PLACE OF DISCOVERY AND SHARING OF INFO LIKE THIS. MY HUSBAND AND I OWN A FEW PIECES OF VAN BRIGGGLE THOUGH WE WOULD LOVE TO HAVE MORE IT IS OFTEN PRICED OUT OF OUR REACH.
I HAVEN'T SEEN ANY NEW POSTINGS HERE FOR A WHILE AND I'M WONDERING IF THERE'S STILL ANYONE AROUND???? IF THERE IS.... HERE'S SOMETHING NEW FOR YOU DISCUSS.....
WE HAVE A PIECE OF VAN BRIGGLE THAT I HAVE NEVER SEEN BEFORE - I HAVE CHECKED A FEW BOOKS AT OUR LIBRARY AND WATCHED HERE AND EBAY FOR ONE LIKE IT BUT NOTHING SO FAR. IT IS A BOX THAT DOESN'T APPER TO HAVE ANY WEAR FOR A LID- PERHAPS IT'S A CACHE BOX? IT IS A MINTY MATT GREEN - NO OTHER COLOR, THE STYLE FEELS ART DECO TO ME A LITTLE GREEK MAYBE - NO FLOWERS - JUST LINES THAT KIND OF FORM RECTANGLES AND EACH CORNER IS RAISED GETING WIDER AT THE BOTTOM.. I THINK THE MARK IS FROM THE 1930'S - THE DOUBLE A - VAN BRIGGLE - COLO SPGS. - CAPITAL L'S AND THE LONG TAILS ON THE G'S AND P BUT THERE ARE NONE OF THE MAKERS OR FINISHERS MARKS, JUST THE EVER CONFUSING X. IT MEASURES 6 1/2 INCHES LONG, 4 3/4 INCHES WIDE AND 2 1/4 INCHES HIGH WITH A RAISED STRIP ON EACH END.
IF I CAN FIGURE OUT HOW TO GET A PICTURE ON I'LL ADD IT. MEAN WHILE I HOPE TO HEAR FROM SOMEONE- I MISS YOU FOLKS....

Hi Karen. I echo your sentiments. I miss the exchanges here as well. I hope your question will lure some of the regulars and perhaps new members to answer your question.

I am not sure of the piece you speak of. Obviously pictures are going to help. Have you read the faq section here - http://www.clemhull.com/phpBB/faq.php#24

Check out photobucket.com. as well. Their faq section should be able to help you answer your posting questions as well.

Good Luck.
Mac

Hi - I miss the conversation here too. I live in Denver and visit the pottery occasionally. As you all probably know, VanBriggle is now located on Tejon Street and completely moved out of the Roundhouse building on 21st Street. We got some great pictures of moving day from the old pottery. The new occupants have done a bang-up job on remodeling and renovating it into Carmichael Training Systems (trainer for Lance Armstrong).
On another note, I see the website has been hit by a lot of junk users. Is there a way to clear that out, or does David or others need some help with that? If the memberlist was a bit more *normal* perhaps folks would come back ... Hope you Hulls are all doing well.

Hello to all, I still log in periodically hoping to see renewed activity. I confess to mostly being a lurker but I do miss the comraderie. I guess if we are going to bring this thing back to any resemblence of what it used to be it's going to require input from some of us who have been sitting on the sidelines. I hope all who have posted here in the past are well and can find time to join in and also welcome any new posters. If you just want to comment on an interesting piece post a pic and start a discussion. There is a great deal of collective knowledge among the members of this message board so if you have a question about Van Briggle pottery please toss it out. Please do include a photo of the piece in question and the bottom markings as this is really the only way any of us can give you accurate information. Reading the sticky note at the top of the general discussion forum about posting links helped me but I don't understand the other buttons like "Img", "List", "Code", etc. Could someone possibly explain their uses and maybe place the information where it would be easy to reference? I think that would be a great help to newcomers as well as others wanting to post a photo for discussion. Thanks, Roy

wave yep, we are still here! have gotten involved in a lot of other things, but still love our Van Briggle. that was a nice NC that sold the other day, thought about bidding, but didn't....
have been involved with Ephraim Faience Pottery lately, taking pics, and collecting. I did get lucky, their new catalog cover is mine, and got a few pics in the calendar they do as well.
I don't know how to get rid of the "unwanted" members, I used to do it one at a time, but finally gave up as there were so many. Did hear from David, a couple months ago, he is still alive and well, as are the other Hull's.
talk to you soon, steve n rose

Really nice work Mac. You were smart to branch out and find another collectable antique other than van briggle. I have a feeling glass is now your main focus and will be for some time. We all should be a little jealous of your accomplishments with your collecting and your computer work. I know I am. You and Steve have developed your own distinctive styles in photo work to the point that I think I could pick out your pictures from any others. A style that can be recogonized from others is an important part of any artist's work. I took up landscape oil painting about a year ago and your glass pictures remind me of something I read about including the air around a subject as part of the subject. I believe your use of light and shadow around the subject do give volume to the air around the glass. I can picture you spending lots of time getting the lighting just right.

Thank you for the kind words. There is something magical about glass; it just pulls me in every time I am at a show or anywhere.

I still enjoy Van Briggle except that the pieces I want now, now that know Van Briggle, are well beyond the reach of my wallet.

I hope this board becomes active again. Such a great group of people here.

Well, it's been a long time since I passed thru.

After going through chemotherapy and ultimately dying and being rescusitated in the emergency room, and having three surgeries to remove and then reconstruct a semblance of a large intestine, I appear to be out of the woods health-wise.

Hi David,
Glad to hear you are doing better and good luck for the future. Are you still in Portland and have you been to the Portland Expo Antique show? Wife and I have not been down to the Expo shows for several years. We were not finding anything so stopped going. Had lots of fun there when we first started collecting pottery. My first dated Van Briggle (a 1916 #902 in plum) came from there in 1998 and we are still collecting,
Anyone see the two 1902 #28B Van Briggle mugs on ebay about a month ago. They had a buy it now link and are now in my display cabinet. The ebay # is 130403172984 but don't know if the pictures are still there.
